Size Matters. 4 Reasons Why Boutique Agencies Are Killing It!

/ / Latest Digital Marketing News / January 14, 2020

The age old saying, ‘good things come in small packages’ still runs true, even today in the digital world.

When it comes to digital marketing, particularly in the digital advertising space, boutique agencies are successfully winning globally renowned brands now more than ever. Big brands, like Pizza Hut and TEDxSydney are opting for smaller, more agile agencies who can not only turn around campaigns quickly, but who are also seeing huge successes in campaign performance and Return On Ad Spend (ROAS). Why is this trend happening you ask? Read our top 4 reasons.

1. Turbo Turnaround Times

Boutique agencies don’t have to struggle with big company structures, where digital work is segmented across multiple teams. Our team structure means we can respond much, much quicker. And, with unprecedented growth in eCommerce, having the ability to respond quickly to market trends is worth its weight (in a shopping basket full of) gold.

2. We Are Generalist Specialists. Or, Is It Specialist Generalists?

We don’t have a team dedicated to only building UTM tracking, another team to set up pixels on a website, and another team to look after campaign builds. At Wired, our team work on their service area from start to finish. We are client facing, but are also technicians (AKA nerds). We are creative, but at the same time, experts with numbers and optimisation. This means our team see the campaign through from start to finish, which not only helps with client relations and campaign performance, but it also help with job satisfaction. Too many times I have interviewed digital marketers from big agencies who say “I want to see the whole picture. I want to see through the campaign from start to finish. And, I want to meet the clients who I’m working so hard for…”

Having a small team who are absolute experts across their entire field also results in a huge amount of insight gathering and key learnings, which may otherwise fall in “the cloud” (you know, the cloud that holds all our data, but no one really knows what it is). This also applies across other digital channels, where relevant knowledge is shared and adapted to ensure best campaign performance.

3. Operations Don’t Cost An Arm And A Leg

Put simply, our overheads are less. Which means we can afford to spend the time each campaign needs (and deserves) in order to achieve the best possible outcome. With more time allocated to each campaign, we have been able to adapt a bespoke model for digital advertising, focused on: ‘hyper-segmentation and hyper-optimisation’. This method has delivered incredible results, time and time again. Several of our clients are now enjoying double revenue growth, whilst at the same time, using the same ad spend (and in some cases, we’ve spent less).

4. We Own Culture Like A Boss

A crucial component to a dynamic and efficient team is staff happiness. However, to be very clear here… we don’t just look after our staff to get more out of them. We truly care about our little fam, and because we’re a small team, we can afford to focus on culture, as much as we focus on… timesheets (ahh, timesheets). For example, at the end of each month, we take our team out for a half or full day, switch off, and do something awesome, like skydiving, quad biking, abseiling, or day spa-ing…

Our clients see how happy our staff are, and how well we work together. And, this is contagious and infectious. It also instils confidence that we are an ethical company, who will absolutely get the job done.
